Different Ways to Wear: Loafers

Loafers are truly a shoe for all seasons and have a timeless appeal, although it doesn’t hurt that Prada, Gucci and Chanel have all sent them down recent runways. They can manifest in many different forms; slimline or chunky, flat or heeled, with or without a back and adorned by snaffles, chains, tassels or simple penny slots. We like wearing them when the weather is warm enough to flash a bit of ankle (ideally bare) to fully inhabit the intersection formed from the Venn diagram of a loafer’s distinguishing aesthetics – part devil-may-care, part comfort-queen, part casual, part formal.

The Glossi Camel Block Snaffle loafers from Dune London are classics of the genre, with contrasting ecru, camel and black leathers which look both timeless and expensive. The preppy vibe they are giving off is hitting all the notes right now, and the gold snaffle is the perfect finishing point.

All Saints jeans use Better Cotton which supports more sustainable cotton farming. New this season to their extensive denim collection are the Cali Jeans which feature a high waist and a very current looking straight leg. We like the raw hems make the overall effect more relaxed and excitingly, less pristine.

We’re thinking this pinafore would look super-cute with a long-sleeved white t-shirt underneath, perhaps a chunky knitted cardigan thrown over the top? The dress was inspired by the artists of Cornwall and so there is a pleasingly practical element; pockets aplenty! Lantivet Pinafore Dress,

If your ankle is flashing, why not pretty it up with an anklet? We love the sweet pearl charms dotted around this chain from Seol+Gold, shown here in 18ct gold vermeil and also available in silver if that is your preference. (We like the matchy-matchy with the snaffle on the loafer).

Genuinely couldn’t say if this is bonkers or brilliant – maybe a little of both? It’s hard to see in the picture, but where raffia meets cotton is a zip, opening to extend the tote shape into a full-sized shopping trolley. Perfect for hitting the high street!

Also dwelling firmly in the same smart-casual world as the loafer, we find this sleeveless shirt from Reiss which contrasts textured soft blue linen with a crisp white colour. There’s a surprise to be found at the back, which is cut away to racer style. Incredibly sexy. Nisha top,

The evenings are getting darker, and a hint of chill in the air means the garden is losing some of its allure. I’m getting ready to lounge. Slothing out – but make it stylish.
