Three Abingdon pubs are teaming up to host simultaneous Charity Quiz Nights in early March for 10 year old boy's vital cancer treatment.

When the Manager of Abingdon’s Crown & Thistle, Giancarlo Ungaro, heard about the urgent appeal to raise a minimum of £½ million for 10-year-old Harry Banks to access vital cancer treatment, he immediately pledged to help.

Harry, who lives near Woburn, has a rare, aggressive children’s cancer called relapsed Neuroblastoma and the pioneering treatment he requires is only available in New York or Barcelona and must start in mid-March.

Giancarlo has got together with two other popular Abingdon pubs, the Broad Face and the Kings Head And Bell, to raise funds for ‘Mad About Harry’ the fundraising campaign that Harry’s family have set up.

The ‘Abingdon for Harry’ quiz nights will be held simultaneously at the three pubs on Thursday 7th March with all proceeds from the evening going towards this appeal.

Giancarlo said: “Here at The Crown & Thistle and at all the pubs and restaurants across Abingdon we spend a lot of our time looking after families and making sure they have a good time. For Harry Banks, who is only 10, popping out with his parents for a treat rarely happens because of his debilitating condition. I had never heard of this terrible form of cancer until one of my colleagues happened to mention it. I immediately wanted to help Harry and all the other children who have this pernicious cancer. I know we have plenty of local charities to support – but our Quiz Night might help make a small difference and, more importantly, raise the profile of this rare and aggressive form of childhood cancer. The other two pubs taking part might be business rivals, but just for this one night, on 7th March, Jordan Phillippa Probert of the Kings Head & Bell and Georgiana Caras of the Broad Face and I are together urging all our regulars and Abingdon residents to visit one of our three locals to help Harry.

Tickets are £5 per person with a maximum of six people per team. There will be prizes on the night, along with an inter-pub raffle.

Pick your pub and book your team in by phone or turn up on the night.
