Princess and The Hustler Dance Shot

Eclipse Theatre’s latest production, Princess and the Hustler, comes to Oxford Playhouse on Friday 22 and Saturday 23 March 2019. Eclipse Theatre is looking for people from Oxford to join the cast on stage in the production as part of a community ensemble, and be part of a key moment in the story.

The play, written by Bristol writer Chinonyerem Odimba, is set against the backdrop of the 1963 Bristol Bus Boycott - one of the leading events in the UK Civil Rights movement, and follows the story of a black family living in Bristol. The story centres around 10 year-old Princess and her dreams of becoming a beauty queen at the Weston Super Mare pageant.

Princess & The Hustler is the second play from Eclipse Theatre’s initiative “Revolution Mix”, spearheading the largest ever delivery of new Black British stories. It is a celebration of what it means to be black and beautiful, of a key moment in Bristol’s history and the consequences for a family caught in the middle of it all.

Eclipse Theatre looking for local participants aged 18+ for two key moments in the show:

The pageant: As a celebration of black beauty in all its forms, Eclipse want to welcome black women (and those who identify as women) to walk as a parade of black women during the show.

The boycott: Looking for a number of people to take part as protesters at various points throughout the show, this opportunity is open to members outside of the black community also.

You don't have to have any acting experience; this is a chance to represent Oxford’s local community as a whole.
