Open weekend

The Base, Greenham are opening the doors to its Resident Artist’s studio for a festive studio open weekend on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 December.

The Base is home to 8 Resident Artists who can be found on the first floor in their accessible studios. Visitors are encouraged to wander upstairs when they call in to the arts centre in order to see the artists at work throughout the year, giving them the opportunity to see the creative process from a whole array of artist mediums. At this special open weekend, visitors can not only see all the Artists at work, but there will also be the chance to have a go on a potter's wheel, watch live art demonstrations, as well as enjoying live Christmas music and Honesty Café will be open for delicious treats and drinks downstairs.

Ellie Kerr-Smiley, one of the Resident Artists at The Base says; ‘We are extremely excited to open our studio doors for this festive weekend! As a collection of eight resident artists of different disciplines, visitors will be able to enter our studios to see how our work is made, as well as browse for Christmas gifts, watch live painting demos, try pottery wheel taster workshops, and listen to live Christmas music, all upstairs at The Base.’

The current Resident Artists include Ellie Kerr-Smiley, a portrait artist with a focus on the depiction of women; Cait Gould, a ceramicist who reached the quarter-finals of BBC Two’s Great Pottery Throw Down in series 2; Charlotte Crawford, a modern abstract artist also known as The Autistic Artist and Jane Skingley who is best known for her dramatic interpretation of landscapes and clouds.

There is also Mark Bijak, an illustrator and graphic artist; Richard Francis-Bellin, an artist who creates his own paints using materials that makes his work glow in the dark; Samantha Emmons, an artist who uses different materials to turn the 2D surface of her paintings to allude to a 3D form and Veronica Kendik, an abstract and semi-abstract painter who captures light, layers of memory and layers of time.

The Base, Greenham’s Christmas Studio Open Weekend is taking place on Saturday 3 December, 10am – 4pm and Sunday 4 December, 11am – 4pm.
