The Cheltenham Festival

Cheltenham

The wait can feel like a lifetime, but once The Cheltenham Festival finally arrives, it does so with a roar with top-class action coming thick and fast. There is something for everyone, with off the track entertainment throughout those four extraordinary days.

The build-up to The Cheltenham Festival begins the minute the gates close on Friday the year before. The excitement on Tuesday morning is palpable, and by the time the flag goes up for the first race, the ‘Cheltenham roar’ ushers in Act 1 Scene 1 of horseracing’s greatest play.

While each day is special in its own right, one day at The Festival stands apart from the others, which is the Gold Cup Day featuring the Boodles Cheltenham Gold Cup. The history books were rewritten last year when Rachael Blackmore became the first female jockey to win the race on board A Plus Tard.
