The Mousetrap: Sink into a Classic

★★★★

divider

We had the absolute pleasure last night of being invited in to enjoy theatre’s best-kept secret, the most renowned 'Who Dun It?' out there, and the world’s longest-running play - Agatha Christie's The Mousetrap. The show provided an evening of immersive tension, and edge-of-the-seat suspense, radiating the welcome and warm familiarity of a classic. Directed by Ian Talbot and Denise Silvey, the opening night of this performance was utterly seamless with each charmingly quirky character portrayed perfectly suspiciously yet unnervingly impenetrable. The beloved story itself oozes natural elegance, and this 70th-anniversary reawakening maintained its timeless, suspenseful thrill from start to finish, you don’t want to miss out on being a part of this theatrical history.

The Mousetrap has been touring the UK since September with a cast including Todd Carty (Eastenders, Grange Hill), Gwyneth Strong (Only Fools and Horses, Eastenders) and John Altman (Eastenders). The tour marks the 70th anniversary of this legendary production which has broken records at St Martin’s Theatre in the West End, having been performed over 28,500 times, selling over 10 million tickets. Frankly, we don’t know what is more incredible; its longevity or the fact that in all this time the audience have respected the request made by the cast not to reveal the murderer outside of the theatre’s walls.

No Spoilers!

The story sees seven strangers stranded in a snowstorm at Monkswell Manor, a remote country guesthouse. Hearing that a murder has taken place in Lonon, the group are joined by a police sergeant who reveals that the killer is in their midst...Sordid pasts are revealed and not one but two questions remain to be answered: who is the murderer? And, who will be their next victim?

The ultimate in #cosymurders, book now for an unforgettable night.

The Mousetrap is at Oxford's New Theatre until Saturday 19 November - don't miss out on Theatre’s Biggest Secret.
