On the doorstep of Blenheim Palace, Soldiers of Oxfordshire Museum (SOFO) tells stories of people affected by conflict, from soldiers on the Front Lines to ordinary people on the Home Front.

Supported by collections of two county regiments, the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry and the Oxfordshire Yeomanry, we tell these stories through dynamic exhibits and interactive displays for all ages.

On a visit you can walk through a great war trench, sit inside Horsa Glider as it prepares to land on D-Day and try your hand at decoding messages all while exploring our permanent exhibition space.

Battles of the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry tells the WW2 stories of the regiment that was one of the first to arrive in France with the BEF before evacuating Dunkirk, and one of the first to return in the early hours of D-Day with the capture of Pegasus Bridge. Listen to the testimonies of soldiers and survivors in our moving Liberation of Bergen-Belsen exhibit, and discover what life was like ‘behind the wire’ in Prisoners of War: At Home & Abroad.

Churchill & The Queen’s Own Oxfordshire Hussars explores the wartime Prime Minister’s earlier military career and lifelong connection with his local regiment, alongside a number of other famous names. Did you know James Bond author Ian Fleming’s father and brothers all served with Oxfordshire regiments?

All this and more can be found in Oxfordshire’s only dedicated military history museum.
